Entering my studio in Tuscany where I am creating “Turms,” the first sculpture in progress to be cast into bronze for 2026. Trums was the Etruscan god of transformation. His name literally means liminal turning. My studio overlooks Vado, an Etruscan city and it is fitting the creative year should start with him.

The 2026 season curriculum of Long Art Learning with Romolo Del Deo is coming soon. With studios in Provincetown, MA and Casoli di Camaiore, Tuscany, students can explore the creative range from finding inspiration in the dunes to the olive vistas of Italy working in heirloom methods and materials. Offerings will be posted in January.

Time chases beauty and sculpts it to its liking, nothing can escape, whether living or inanimate. My work is focused on bringing us close to art by sharing in its dance with time. It seems to me that as much as the artist imagines that their artwork is a manifestation of their will, it sometimes seems the other way around, and the artwork is deciding for itself who and what it wishes to be. The artist can fight it or accept the decision of the artwork. Perhaps the the secret is to learn how to listen to what the art is saying and grow together. And that, truly is the most beautiful thing about being an artist, in my opinion.
